[Re]connect
Community support and [re]connection with others to break the isolation of abuse
Locating computers (or a computer room) adjacent to advocacy offices can encourage advocate/resident interaction.
For many survivors, connecting and reconnecting with new and old support systems is eased by email or social networking. Online access facilitates survivors’ efforts to obtain work, public benefits, housing, and information. The computers can also be used by advocates to assist residents with resume writing, job search skills, etc.
Increasingly, residents arrive with their own computers or smart phones. Strategic placement of wi-fi ‘hotspots’ in communal areas can also encourage interaction.

At the YWCA Pierce County the computer room is located within the office suite; however, the office may be acoustically isolated when required.
