Parenting, supervising, and opportunities for bonding with children
A child-friendly area within advocacy spaces helps parents connect with advocates.
Shy, traumatized or anxious children benefit from being able to keep an eye on their parent, but not from hearing all the details a parent may need to discuss with an advocate. Visually accessible but acoustically separated kids’ spaces allow parents to connect with advocates and protect children from conversations that may cause confusion or anxiety.

At the YWCA Pierce County, a glassed-in alcove off the advocate’s office provides a space for children to play or watch a video, but keep an eye on their mother at the same time (and vice versa).
